On April 24 Lafayette police responded to the 200 block of East Clinton Street regarding multiple suspects discharging firearms in the area. When the officer arrived he exited his patrol car and began searching the area.
The officer came upon a male suspect standing in the street and began giving the suspect verbal commands. The suspect did not comply and pointed a pistol in the direction of the officer. The officer fired multiple shots at the suspect, striking the suspect in the shoulder.
The suspect then fled on foot, but was located a short time later hiding beneath a home. The suspect, a 19 year old male of Lafayette, was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The officer was not injured during the incident.
The shooting is being investigated by the Lafayette Police Department Officer Involved Shooting Team. Investigators at the scene recovered two semi- automatic pistols and discovered the suspect was wanted on two warrants for Resisting Arrest and Simple Escape. The investigation remains ongoing.
