Current law generally allows that non-hazardous employees in the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System, the Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana and the Louisiana School Employees’ Retirement System can retire at age 60 with five years of service.
The bill by Republican Rep. Kevin Pearson, of Slidell, will require non-hazardous employees who start work after July 1, 2015, to wait until they are 62 years old before they are eligible for retirement.
The measure was given final passage Tuesday with a 91-0 vote from the House. It heads next to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s desk.
