Coroner: Drugs found in drowning victim’s system

A newly released coroner’s report says that the 21-year old Grambling student who was found dead in Girard Park, had drugs in her system.

The report states that Alexandria Shelton died due to “drowning with contribution of poly drug toxicity, meaning she had more than one drug in her system.

Both marijuana and synthetic marijuana were found in Shelton’s system. Shelton died at around 3:25 a.m. on April the 13th.

The coroner’s office indicated that police had notified the family of its findings during the last few days subsequent to the completion of the report.

Foul play was ruled out in April. Lafayette Police say the case on Shelton has been closed.
