June 5, 2014 – Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal reports that on Wednesday, June 4 at approximately 6:30 PM deputies with the Patrol Division responded to a local restaurant in the 300 block of Center Street concerning reports of a man with a gun. Deputies spoke with the female victim, an employee of the business, who informed them the suspect arrived at the business and created a disturbance concerning a food order. The suspect was asked to step outside of the business. Once outside, the suspect raised his shirt, displayed a firearm, threatened the victim and departed.
Patrol deputies were able to identify the suspect as Jerry Stevens Meyer, 35 of 210 Wilree Street in New Iberia. Meyer was arrested at his residence without incident. The firearm, which was discovered to be stolen, was recovered. Meyer was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felony Carrying of an Illegal Weapon, Terrorizing and Possession of a Firearm in a Firearm Free Zone and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail without bond.
