Vacant house damaged in fire

A fire in the downtown Lafayette area Wednesday night caused heavy damage to a vacant house. Lafayette firefighters responded to the structure fire around 9:30 Wednesday evening in the 500 block of Garfield Street.

When the fire crews arrived, flames were coming from the roof but they were able to get the fire under control within twenty minutes. The house sustained heavy damage to the exterior and the the roof.

According to a fire department spokesman, no other homes sustain any fire damage and no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
