Basic training for school cops in Bossier City

BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) – School resource officers from around Louisiana are getting basic training this week in Bossier City.

Lt. Bill Davis, a Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman, says 28 officers from parishes including East Baton Rouge, DeSoto and Natchitoches are participating.

He says subjects being taught by Calcasieu Parish Commander Bobby Robinson include responding to someone shooting in a school, gangs, and texting and sexting. That class began Monday and runs through Friday.

Davis says an advanced class for 25 officers will run Wednesday through Friday at the Horseshoe Casino. That class will include more scenarios and discuss more issues.

Robinson taught similar courses last week in Baton Rouge.

A grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement pays for the courses.
