For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has been named the most affordable four-year, public university in Louisiana.

In addition to leading Louisiana as the university with the lowest average net price to attend, it is among the top 10 percent of most affordable four-year public universities in the United States. The average net price was generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grants or scholarships from the total cost of attendance.

UL Lafayette’s annual net price to attend was $5,911, with 86 percent of its students receiving grant aid. The national average net price to attend a four-year public university was $11,582.

“The University has retained its affordability while continuing to improve retention and graduation rates. At the same time, the academic preparedness of incoming students reflects strengthened admissions requirements,” said Aaron Martin, director of Communications and Marketing at UL Lafayette.

The affordability designation is for the most recent academic year.

Data used by the U.S. Department of Education was reported by institutions for full-time, beginning undergraduate students.

“These lists support our efforts to make college more accessible and to help families make informed decisions on the single most important investment students can make in their own futures,” U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said in a press release Monday.
