The suspect fled the scene when confronted by the victim. Broussard Police Officers, along with a Sheriff’s Office K-9, continued canvassing the area in attempts to locate the suspect.
Officers located a male subject that matched the detailed description, given by the prior victims, walking in a private lot in the 800 block of E Main St.
Officers made contact with the subject that was bleeding from the arm and detained him. While detaining the subject officers were advised of another attempted residential burglary immediately next to where the subject was being detained.
Officers made contact with the home owner and it was explained to officers that a black male suspect attempted to forcefully gain entry into the residence but fled when confronted by the victim, just as in the prior cases.
During the investigation, the detained subject, Shawn Marks b/m 42yoa of Opelousas, LA, was ultimately identified as the suspect in all 3 attempted residential burglaries.
After the suspect’s apprehension, officers continued canvassing the area of the crime scenes for evidence. During the canvass officers located a business that had been broken into by forced entry adjacent to the last residential burglary which was also later linked to Marks.
Marks was ultimately booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on 3 counts of Attempted Home Invasion and 1 count of Simple Burglary after he received medical attention for his cut.
