More controversy is brewing over the St. Mary Parish jail as an inmate has apparently been posting status updates on Facebook from inside the jail.
The inmate, 32-year-old Alvin Terrell Louis, has nearly 100 posts on his Facebook page since July 16th.
Some of the posts include references to being in jail saying quote “the last thing you told me was don’t post no jailhouse pictures, I didn’t listen.”
This is the latest in a string of incidents at the St. Mary Parish Jail. Earlier this month, videos leaked from inside the jail showing inmates with cell phones and what appeared to be marijuana.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert says they are working to address the issue and they have not ruled out the possibility of Louis’ Facebook account being controlled by someone else.
“We’re still investigating it. In regards to it, the biggest thing posed that brought concern to the public is that the posting on Facebook, you know, we’re looking at that. I mean everyone knows about Facebook that just because something’s out there doesn’t mean you’re operating your page, that anybody can have access to that page and make comments as well. And that’s pretty much what we’re looking at.””
If investigators find that Louis did indeed have a cellphone in jail, he could see five years added on to his sentence for having contraband inside the jail.
