Acadia Parish Fugitive Found

The Rayne Police Department announced today that Lamar Malbrough (23) was taken into custody today by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and Rayne Police Department in Crowley today, shortly after 1:00 PM.

This arrest is the result of an investigation of the June 30, 2014 attempted armed robbery of two local men, during which one of the offenders discharged a firearm into the victim’s occupied vehicle. Officers were able to identify Lamar Malbrough and Bryan Bellard as suspects early in the investigation. Officers obtained arrest warrants on both suspects for Attempted Armed Robbery (2 Counts) and Attempted First Degree Murder (2 Counts).

Chief Stelly stated “I am relieved that both of the suspects are in custody and currently can not victimize anyone. We will continue to aggressively pursue these violent criminals and drug traffickers, which is a precursor for a majority of our violent crimes.”

The Rayne Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Service has been diligently searching for Lamar Malbrough since the June 30th incident.

Chief Stelly stated that the arrest was the result of a tip received by Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish, which provided investigators with the time and location of an upcoming appointment where the suspect would be present.

Chief Stelly stated “I would like to thank the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force, which has proved to be an incredible resource for local departments pursuing felons who flee the jurisdiction of the original crime. Their hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated.”

Lamar Malbrough was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail with a $250,000 bond set by Commissioner Thomas Frederick.

The Rayne Police Department would like to remind everyone that Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish will pay a reward, up to $1,000, for information that assist law enforcement with solving a crime.
