St. Landry Parish – Shortly before 6:30 am on July 31, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on the I-49 Frontage Road near Kennerson Road in St. Landry Parish. The crash took the life of 32 year old Corey L. Doucet of Opelousas, LA.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Doucet was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon northbound on the Frontage Road. Doucet failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and his GMC traveled straight off the roadway. After leaving the roadway the GMC struck a ditch causing the vehicle to overturn.
Doucet was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Driver impairment is unknown at this time. A toxicology sample was taken from Doucet and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
