Davis files federal lawsuit against LPSS

Cajundome Director Greg Davis made good on his threat to file suit against the Lafayette Parish School Board. Davis’ attorney filed the suit in federal court Friday after the school board refused to go into executive session to discuss the pending suit Thursday evening.

According to court documents, Davis wants the board to end their investigation against Superintendent Doctor Pat Cooper and prevent board members Tehmi Chassion and Mark Babineaux from voting to fire him.

And as Lafayette students head back to school, next week, without an approved budget, the suit would dedicate fifty percent of last year’s budget to temporarily fund this year’s budget.

This afternoon, we caught up with Dr. Cooper to get his take on the legal battle.

“I don’t have any comment about the support of it. I didn’t file it, he filed it. I’m just going to keep doing my job and keep the children here in front. We got school to open that’s a whole political thing that McGoffin and Greg Davis and the board are going to have to deal with on their own.”
