Lafayette fire investigators ruled early morning house fire- arson.

At 2:49 this morning, firefighters from Judice, Duson, Milton, and Scott Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a house fire at 2013 Denias Road. Upon arrival, the mobile home was fully involved with heavy smoke and flames coming from the interior. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately thirty minutes before getting it under control. The mobile home sustained heavy fire damage.

The owner of the dwelling, Janet Levy, was home asleep when she heard a loud noise coming from the living room. She observed her front door being forced open. Soon afterwards, the living room was on fire. She was able to exit through the back door without any injuries. Unfortunately, her dog was not able to escape the fire.

Lafayette fire investigators have determined that an individual(s) forced open her door. After doing so, set the fire with some form of accelerant. Evidence was collected at the scene to be further analyzed. Witnesses observed a dark color vehicle leaving the scene. Investigators with Lafayette fire and sheriff department are handling the case.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 232-TIPS.
