First National Bank, United Way of Acadiana partner to give children access to free books
LAFAYETTE, LA – Throughout July, parents can sign children up to receive free books through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at First National Bank of Louisiana locations.
“Early exposure to books puts children on the right path toward graduating on time and, ultimately, having a good quality of life. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides those books along with the potential for reading practice,” said UWA President and CEO Margaret Trahan. “Partnerships like this one with First National Bank of Louisiana provide more opportunities for children across Acadiana to start school ready to learn.”
Through United Way of Acadiana, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides free books to children throughout Acadia, Lafayette, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes. Each registered child receives one free book in the mail each month until that child reaches age 5. More than 13,000 children in Acadiana have received Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library books.
“I know from my own grandchildren that their precious brains are so eager for knowledge. They learn from what they see and hear. We should start feeding their minds at a young age, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is great resource,” said Cindy Miller, vice president of human resources for First National Bank of Louisiana. “We’re proud to team with United Way of Acadiana in this early-learning effort.”
