According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
On the evening of 8/14/14, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division came in contact with Terry Trahan (DOB 3/19/88) of Morse through a traffic situation. After speaking with Trahan, and conducting brief questioning, deputies contacted the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division to assist on scene with possible illicit narcotics.
Upon arrival, and a brief investigation, the narcotics agent, along with the deputy seized 32 grams of synthetic marijuana, and several Hydrocodone pills. It was found through questioning that Trahan had filled his prescription of Hydrocodone that day. The prescription called for 150 pills in the bottle. It was noticed that only 39 were left. Trahan stated that he had traded his pills for the synthetic marijuana. Trahan was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff Couvillon goes on to state, “The trend in synthetic marijuana use and distribution is disturbing. Once again we attribute this to the fact that most of the people using this drug are uneducated to what it actually is. The chemicals used to make this drug are very dangerous to the nervous system, and health of the brain. Basically what they are consuming are hallucinogenic chemicals. We are seeing more and more stories of people having psychotic episodes, going into comas, and even dying due to this drug. My office has, and will continue to take down as many people as possible, who continue to sell, or even using this drug. One life saved is worth all of the man hours we put into this profession.” Sheriff Couvillon applauds the patrol division in the case for a heads up investigation that lead to the arrest of Trahan.
Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff’s Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs.
