New renovations at Cajun Field

Ragin Cajun fans only have a few more days before the big kickoff game between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Southern University. Ragin Cajuns’ Associate Athletics Director Rob Stewart said construction workers are putting the final touches on renovations for the big game.

“We’ve got several things that we’re still putting the finishing touches on right now. Sodexo is moving all the concession equipment in their brand new stands. The actual construction and kind of the finishing stages of the brick work and that kind of stuff is still taking place,” said Stewart.

Stewart said he expects construction to be complete in time for the season kickoff game on August 30th.

He adds he’s looking forward to breaking a record attendance of 41,000 people.

“We’re hoping this year with the new south end zone we could surpass standing room only. We’re hoping to have upwards of 45,000 this year and shatter our previous record,” said Stewart.

Assistant Director for Athletic Marketing & Promotion Eric Maron said parking is slightly different this year.

“You’re directed to come early and park behind the Hilton Garden Inn. There’s going to be plenty of parking,” said Maron.

Tailgaters are also in for a surprise this season.

“We’ve added a new RV tailgating lot in which we have 81 tailgating spots. Fifty of those spots have power and then next year the other thirty will have power,” said Stewart.

According to Stewart, season ticket sales are at an all-time high with sales reaching 13,000 so far.

“We’re a thousand over the record that we set last year so we’ve already beat it. We’ve got 12 days until kickoff so we’re hoping to just keep building on that momentum and make that number even bigger,” said Stewart.

Stewart said Ragin Cajun fans can begin to purchase individual tickets on August 25th for the kickoff game.
