As the University of Louisiana at Lafayette continues to carry out phases of its Master Plan, today, school officials celebrated the groundbreaking for a brand new athletic performance center.
The 85,000 square foot facility will include a state of the art training room, 150 seat auditorium a 12,000 square foot weight room, among many other amenities. The performance center will be accessible by all athletes, male and female. “We’re winning in all of our sports, we are improving. Tthis is just to take it to the next level and winning is what brings you to the next level. The only way you win is you get great coaches, you get great support and you did great facilities” says Wayne Elmore, Chairman of the RCAF Board.
When Elmore refers to ‘The Next level”, of course that means professional sports, but also in attracting new talent. Elmore says “It’s a great recruiting tool. If you bring somebody in and show them the ribbon cutting we just did here and Cajunfield, it’s going to help us recruit.” University Athletic Director, Scott Farmer says “When you’re an athlete and you’re being recruited you look at where you live, where you eat, where you train, where you change clothes and all of those things and this facility is going to help by just being new and modern and showing people we are committed to athletics .”
Administrators believe the new performance center will bring a phenomenal change for current and future Ragin Cajun athletes. Officials expect the performance center to be complete within a year.
