The Vermilion Parish Law Enforcement Center will be adding a little extra security to its facility. Near the end of this year you can expect to see a seven foot wall completely surrounding the premises.
The wall won’t be to keep prisoners in, but to keep water during storm surges out. The law enforcement center is not very far from the Gulf of Mexico and there are several drainage bodies of water surrounding the jail. During Hurricane Rita back in 2005, a large part of Vermilion Parish was under water. The jail is slightly elevated so they were able avoid flooding, nonetheless, it was a close call.
Colonel Kirk Frith says construction should begin in latter part of this year, so we can expect see the final product within the early stages of 2015.
