Contractor sought in fraud investigation

INVESTIGATORS WITH THE ST. MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARE ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING CONTRACTOR

(St. Martinville, LA.) Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating a complaint regarding Mr. Neal Joseph Laperouse, 51, in reference to a report of contractor fraud that took place in May, 2014. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Laperouse defrauded two people in St. Martin Parish by taking money from them without performing the work. Investigators also learned that Mr. Laperouse has outstanding warrants for similar types of contractor fraud for Lafayette Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette Police Department, and Acadia Sheriff’s Office.  Mr. Laperouse’s last known residence was in Branch, LA.; however, he has had several residences in the Acadiana area.

Investigators would like to caution the public to be careful when hiring a contractor for home improvement renovations. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been lodged against them prior to hiring them and ask for references. Please be cautious of anyone asking for money up front.
