Deputy injured by fleeing purse snatchers

A Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Deputy was injured when two suspects, running from police, slammed into his patrol unit Wednesday.

Police say around 9:00 PM Wednesday night, the two suspects assaulted and then snatched purses from two women in North Lafayette. The two female victims were treated for minor injuries.

A Good Samaritan, witnessed the crime and notified authorities who attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect failed to comply and it was later discovered that the suspects’ vehicle was stolen from Vermilion Parish.

Reco Williams of Lafayette and Earl Meche of Kaplan, were arrested after the chase came to a halt in Kaplan when the suspect’s vehicle struck a Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Unit.

The sheriff’s deputy received minor injuries.
