One man is dead after a shooting Tuesday night in Jeanerette.
The shooting happened in the 1600 block of Tarleton Street.
Jeanerette Police Chief Marvin Grogan said a 16-year-old fatally shot his 57-year-old father.
Neighbor, James Sykes, said shortly after he heard his neighbors arguing, he went to the store.
On his way back, he received a phone call about shots fired next door.
“I was surprised to hear that and by the time I got back cops were everywhere and they said somebody got killed,” said Sykes.
Jeanerette Assistant Police Chief, Lieutenant Gloria Lombard said dispatchers received a call around 10:00 p.m..
“We’re still investigating whether it was intentional or staged and we won’t know that right now,” said Lombard.
The victim’s name has not been released.
Many neighbors said the victim and his family usually kept to themselves.
They are still in shock.
“It’s a quiet little neighborhood and the people next door you might see them come in and come out and that’s about it. I’m surprised that even happened in this area,” said Sykes.
The 16-year-old has been released to a guardian.
The victim’s autopsy results are pending.
