Sheriff Louis Ackal reports that on January 2, 2015, at approximately 12:50 a.m. deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle burglary on Caroline Street, New Iberia. Once deputies arrived, they learned that two male suspects had attempted to burglarize a home owner’s vehicle.
Deputies then stated that the home owner went outside armed with a firearm and caught the suspects while in the act of breaking into the vehicle. The victim told deputies he had fired at one of the suspects, thinking they were armed. The suspects then fled on foot from the area.
One of the suspects is described as a black male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black and white sneakers. Deputies also learned that the suspects were driving a stolen vehicle which was recovered at the scene of the attempted burglary. Also, as deputies and detectives were conducting their investigation, several more reports were made of other vehicle burglaries in the area. Detectives believe that the vehicle burglaries are all possibly linked.
Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Investigations are currently investigating the incident and are attempting to locate the two suspects. Detectives are asking if anyone has information involving the incident, to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337)369-3711.
