LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Court costs for traffic violations in Acadiana have increased from $10 to $30. The $20 fee hike went into effect Jan. 1. The Acadiana Crime Lab board approved the increase.
The lab serves law enforcement agencies and courts in eight parishes. Crime lab director Kevin Ardoin said revenues are down but expenses have remained flat.
“We assist law enforcement. We assist sheriff’s offices. We assist police agencies,” Ardoin said. “And violent crimes that happen to the citizens of the eight parishes we serve, so we serve a critical role.”
The crime lab received a state appropriation to balance its 2015 budget. Ardoin said the Crime Lab Task Force is looking into long term solutions to address the 2016 budget deficit.
