Jindal going to Europe on economic development trip

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Gov. Bobby Jindal is traveling to Europe this weekend for an economic development mission. The trip also could bolster the governor’s international relations credentials as he considers a possible presidential campaign.

Jindal’s office was announcing the plans Thursday and provided trip details in advance to The Associated Press.

The governor will have stops in Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The travel contingent will leave Sunday and return to Louisiana on Jan. 20.

Jindal’s office said the primary focus is to seek new foreign investment for the state. The governor will meet with executives from five companies in the manufacturing and services industries.

But he’ll also be giving a foreign policy address while overseas, to the conservative Henry Jackson Society, and will meet with “political leaders in the United Kingdom.”
