David Payne is in stable condition tonight. Doctors managed to stop the bleeding on his brain, But, his spirits are low because he says he doesn’t know why someone would do this to him.
Payne says he was trying to break up a fight between two teenage girls in the middle of the street. When someone came up from behind him and took him out.
“In fact I didn’t even feel it,” Payne said.
Payne was sucker punched by this unidentified man that he doesn’t know. Payne says for no reason.
“I just took the kid, I was down there trying to break them up and had got them away,” Payne said.
Payne’s mother Gloria Jones says the man that struck her son was armed with more than his bare knuckles.
“It’s a little bit hard to see but you can see him taking the brass knuckles and putting them up on his fingers,” Jones said.
Jones says she doesn’t understand why her son would be a target for the senseless attack, especially with his love for mentoring youth.
“He often mentors and talks to kids down in that neighborhood he takes them to church with him. he’s just one that tries to bring peace,” Jones said.
Payne says the person that punched him simply doesn’t have any regret for throwing that drastic blow.
“They don’t care about me being an educator that just see me being a grown man and seen somebody they wanted to hit,” Payne said.
David suffered three fractures in his face and also bleeding on his brain which doctors managed to stop. The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the case.
No arrest have been made however the suspect will be charged with second degree aggravated battery pending their arrest.
The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office is looking for the person responsible for putting a teacher’s aide in the hospital.
Disturbing video of a fight in Tanglewood Tuesday evening was posted on Facebook today. The post was made by someone calling him or herself “Tanglewood Hard-Hita.”
The video begins with a group of teenage girls fighting and ends with an unidentified male knocking out a Monroe City Schools employee.
The sheriff’s office says teacher’s aide David Payne was taken to University Health in Shreveport for treatment of his injuries.
The sheriff’s office says no arrest has been made, but they already know the suspect will be charged with second degree aggravated battery.
The sheriff’s office confirms the fight took place on Tanglewood Drive Tuesday evening around 6:30 P.M.
