David Payne is in stable condition tonight. Doctors managed to stop the bleeding on his brain, But, his spirits are low because he says he doesn’t know why someone would do this to him.

“In fact I didn’t even feel it,” Payne said.

“I just took the kid, I was down there trying to break them up and had got them away,” Payne said.

Payne’s mother Gloria Jones says the man that struck her son was armed with more than his bare knuckles.

“It’s a little bit hard to see but you can see him taking the brass knuckles and putting them up on his fingers,” Jones said.

Jones says she doesn’t understand why her son would be a target for the senseless attack, especially with his love for mentoring youth.

“He often mentors and talks to kids down in that neighborhood he takes them to church with him. he’s just one that tries to bring peace,” Jones said.

Payne says the person that punched him simply doesn’t have any regret for throwing that drastic blow.

“They don’t care about me being an educator that just see me being a grown man and seen somebody they wanted to hit,” Payne said.
