Lafayette superintendent search to start soon

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) – The search for a new Lafayette Parish school superintendent could take anywhere from three to five months.

That’s the estimation given by School Board President Tommy Angelle, who added that the timeline could vary slightly depending on the number of applicants and their locations.

Since the board fired Pat Cooper as superintendent on Nov. 6, The Advertiser reports there has been no movement on finding a permanent replacement. The board appointed Burnell LeJeune, a longtime school system administrator and supervisor, as the interim superintendent on Nov. 10. The permanent job has not yet been advertised, and Angelle said the search has not yet started.

Angelle said he expects the board to take up the matter within the next few weeks.
