Crowley fugitive sought in shooting

One Crowley man is dead and another is on the run after a fatal shooting that happened Thursday morning.

Police say 24-year-old Daniel Tezeno Jr. was shot and killed at the corner of Jacobs Avenue and 7th Street in Crowley where . Family members say Tezeno was giving his first cousin Darius Thomas a ride when Thomas shot him.

Family and friends say they are still trying to make sense of what happened.

“I watched him grow up and become a nice young man. He always took to himself. He never got into any trouble. He was well liked by everyone in the community” says Troy Goffney.

The initial police investigation shows Thomas and Tezeno seem to have been fighting while the car was moving.

“When our officers arrived on scene apparently a shooting incident had occurred within the vehicle that was in the ditch and we began an investigation for the victim as well as the suspect” says Crowley Police Chief KP Gibson.

Chief Gibson believes Thomas shot Tezeno as he was trying to get out of the car.

“They located the victim a short distance away from the vehicle who had been shot believed to be in the torso area believed to be on the right side.”

Tezeno was then driven to Acadia General Hospital where he later died. Another family friend, Janet Lyons, says she will always remember how quiet Tezeno was.

“He was a good kid. He usually kept to himself. Very shy, he will be dearly missed”

Troy Goffney says he’s tired of seeing of so many young lives lost in the community over various crimes.

“He was one of those kids that you look at and you have hope for but just like a lot of the other senseless murders here. This was good that was taken away from us too soon.”
