SLIDELL, La. – A Baton Rouge man tossed his infant daughter to the ground in an effort to escape police who were investigating a report of shoplifting from a Slidell store Sunday, according to Slidell Police.
The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. at Ulta Beauty store in the Fremaux Town Center.
Police said officers dispatched to a report of a man who had stolen more than $1,000 in merchandise from a store were walking up to the man in an attempt to talk to him about the allegation.
Police said 24-year-old Lamar Causey then tossed his 17-month-old daughter to the ground and then fled. The young girl suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital and later released to family members.
While one of the two officers tended to the infant, the other gave chase and apprehended Causey. Police said Causey threatened them, saying that some of “his people from Baton Rouge” would take care of them.
“I have never seen someone do that before,” said Sergeant Chris Newman. “He literally threw his daughter down as if she were a toy doll.”
Slidell Police said they recovered fourteen bottles of stolen perfume/cologne, which amounted to amounted to $1,187.55. Causey was booked into the Slidell City Jail with theft of goods over $1,000, cruelty to juveniles, child desertion, resisting an officer by flight on foot, public intimidation, and possession of schedule II drugs. Causey, who is also wanted out of Baton Rouge for burglary, will be transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where a bond will be set.
