Lafayette musician writes song for Cancer Journal Project

Rob Trahan

Nearly two years ago Kenan Irving from Ruston, Louisiana lost his wife of nine years to cancer.

After finding out she had stage four stomach cancer, Ashley Irving began documenting her experiences in a journal given to her by her sister. Every day she wrote down exactly what she was feeling, and it gave her a way to cope with what was going on. Six months after being diagnosed Ashley died. Now Keenan is using her journal to help others, in what’s called the Cancer Journal Project.

Local musician Rob Trahan of Lafayette has written a song for the project, based around Keenan’s favorite quote from Ashley’s journal, “I saw bats and fireflies tonight”.

The song is available today, in iTunes, Google Play and Amazon. All proceeds go directly to the make a wish foundation to help children and their families get a much needed break. In the last six months the project has raised enough money to send 4 children to Walt Disney world.
