President Obama traveled to the Phoenix VA Medical Center on Friday.
He met with veterans and employees and got an update on the VA health system. This was Obama’s first visit to the hospital which sparked a nationwide investigation into the government care of veterans. The president is forming a new committee to focus on more reforms. The VA says since June, it has increased appointments for veterans, extended clinic hours, cut the wait list for care in half, and changed leadership at nearly all its medical facilities.
The VA is also streamlining how veterans make follow-up benefit claims and appeals, requiring a standard form for the first time.
