Hundreds of people will gather today for the funeral of a deputy US marshal who was gunned down in Baton Rouge last week. Josie Wells, 27, of Mississippi, was killed in the line of duty while serving an arrest warrant. Family, friends and law enforcement agencies across the region began honoring Wells on Monday in his hometown of Wade, Mississippi.  Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. in Wade.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2015, Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells was killed in the line of duty when a task force made up of law enforcement from the Baton Rouge area and the US Marshals Service attempted to arrest a murder suspect at the Elm Grove Motel. He was expecting a child with his wife, Channing, who learned the day after his death that their baby is a boy. The US Deputy Marshal Josie Wells Memorial Fund has been set up to benefit his family and child, who will now be called Josie Wells, Jr. There are several easy ways to help. You can donate using the form below or text JOSIE to 99009* for a donation via mobile.
