Mayor Mitch Landrieu says New Orleans has come a long way in the 10 years since Hurricane Katrina and the five years since he took office, and still has a lot to do.

He says a website called Katrina10.org will showcase the city’s recovery.

His “State of the City” speech Thursday focused mainly on changes since he took office.

He says that since 2010, New Orleans has gone from near bankruptcy to a surplus, from the nation’s murder capital to a 43-year low for killings, and from 10,000 homeless people to just over 1,700.

Landrieu says unfinished business includes public safety, economic development and housing affordability. He also notes that courts say the city must put tens of millions of dollars into the jail and the firefighters’ pension fund.
