Pierre Part man and juvenile arrested in connection with camp burglary

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a camp burglary on Bayou Natchez in Belle River. Upon arrival the camp owner reported a firearm was missing from the residence. Shortly afterwards, a second call came in regarding another possible break in at a camp on Bayou Natchez approximately one mile away from the first call. However, the camp owner did not notice anything missing despite the front door being opened.

Following a joint investigation by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St.Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding both burglaries that occurred in the two adjoining Parishes, two arrests were made by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office. The suspect has been identified as 18 year old Brett Hebert of Agnes Street in Pierre Part, Louisiana.  Additionally, authorities say one 13 year old juvenile subject from Pierre Part was also arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Correctional Center.

Authorities are also investigating an incident that occurred an hour before those burglaries when deputies responded to a fire at a camp also on Bayou Natchez. Detectives with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating it to see if it is related to the other burglaries. The camp was burned to the ground and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.

In addition to the charges in Assumption Parish Brett Hebert was charged with the following and was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center this morning on the following charges:  Simple Burglary-2 counts.  He will also be charged with the following charge:  Contributing To The Delinquency of a Juvenile

The investigation remains ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
