Ville Platte man found guilty of child porn

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley announced Wednesday that a federal jury found a Ville Platte man guilty of possessing and receiving child pornography via a internet file-sharing program.

Bradley Smith, 60, was found guilty of two counts of possession of child pornography and three counts of receiving child pornography. U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote presided over the trial, which had a jury return a guilty verdict after 40 minutes of deliberation.

Evidence admitted at the trial detected smith using a file-sharing program to download child pornography unto his computer. A total of 40 videos and 1,100 images of child pornography were found following a forensic investigation of Smith’s computer on Sept. 24, 2012. The FBI and Louisiana State Police conducted the investigation.

Smith faces up to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography and five to 20 years for receiving child pornography. He also faces five to life of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing has been scheduled for Sept. 24.
