Nearly all of the 200 employees of the Zatarain’s production facility in Gretna were on hand Monday to celebrate the end of construction that has tripled the size of the company’s facility.
New Orleans CityBusiness (http://bit.ly/1CDY5If ) reports that by the end of next year the 80,000-square foot expansion will be fully operational with 10 new manufacturing lines that will package products ranging from Creole mustard to the company’s signature crab boil spice mix.
Zatarain’s general manager Jill Pratt says the facility produces six million cases of product each year.
Zatarain’s bought the land for the expansion in 2009 from the city of Gretna for about $660,000. The $26 million construction project, which began in early 2014 and wrapped up in March, is the first expansion for Zatarain’s since the 1960’s.
