BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Five Louisiana universities are sharing a five-year $20 million grant to build a national consortium that supports advanced manufacturing research.

The Board of Regents announced Monday that the National Science Foundation grant will be used to establish the Consortium for Innovation in Manufacturing and Materials.

It’s a collaboration between LSU, Louisiana Tech University, Grambling State University, Southern University and the University of New Orleans.

LSU will host a shared specialized research lab for the consortium in Baton Rouge.

The Board of Regents said the group’s work will involve improving manufacturing technology through supercomputer modeling. LSU described the project as seeking to advance applications in 3-D metal printing, among other plans.
