Parents and students all over Acadiana are starting to get ready for the first day of school.
Parents of students in Lafayette Parish can expect quite a few changes.
Jonathon Cole, a social studies teacher at Lafayette High School offered to provide News 10 with a few tips to prepare for the big day. He says parents should take their children to get an eye exam and update any current prescriptions.
As Lafayette High welcomes a new principal, many of their policies and expectations are different including a stricter cell phone and uniform policy.
Cole says to get a head start parents can take advantage of some new technology offered by the Lafayette Parish School System. ”LPSSonline.com and when parents go there, there’s a school tab, you click on that and every school is available. Each school maintains it’s own website and when you get to there you can click on supply lists.”
Cole says parents can also start weaning their kids off of their summer sleep schedule to get them back into their school routine.
The first day of school for Lafayette Parish is Thursday, August 13th.
