A summer road construction project in Lafayette Parish will not be finished in time for the start of school.
Construction begins at the intersection of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Dulles Drive and will continue north stopping at Eraste Landry Road.
Kevin Blanchard, LCG Director of Public Works says construction started a few months ago and will continue for about another month and a half. Blanchard says the concrete on Ambassador is about 30 years old and is in bad condition. He says workers are tearing up parts of the old concrete and replacing it. Workers are also repairing the curbs and sidewalks.
Drivers say the timing couldn’t be worse.
Andrew Sadoie, manager of Shop Rite on the corner of Dulles Dr., says “The traffic is pretty bad already even without construction and considering it’s the start of the school year it’s a very inconvenient for bus drivers and kids on a hot bus.”
Blanchard says once workers repair the northbound lane of Ambassador they’ll turn around and begin repairs southbound.
The next phase of construction will begin Spring 2016.
