UPDATE: The Chief of Opelousas Police says last night’s shooter on Madison Street actually fired 22 gunshots. Investigators initially reported he fired 17.
Chief Donald Thompson tells KLFY’s Jazmin Thibodeaux that the suspect, Jamie Ballard, was armed with three guns when officers arrested him around 3:30 this morning.
Ballard was allegedly hiding in field behind his father’s house on Janice Street in Opelousas.
The shooting initially happened around 10 p.m. last night in the 700 block of Madison Street.
No one was injured during the shooting. Thompson says investigators currently do not have a motive for the shooting.
Ballard was booked into the Opelousas City Jail on illegal use of weapons charges.
He could face additional charges.
