Opelousas Police salute fallen Shreveport officer as his body is transported to final resting place

Interstate 49 @ Hwy. 90 was shut down for a short while Saturday as Opelousas Police lined I-49 southbound when the body of a police officer originally from Ascension Parish passed through the city.

Thomas LaValley, a Shreveport police officer, was murdered while responding to a call of a suspicious person in a house in Shreveport Wednesday night. LaValley, 29, grew up in St. Amant but had been a Shreveport Police officer for four years.

Officers lined the side of the Interstate with their police unit lights flashing and standing at attention as Thomas LaValley’s body made its way to its final resting place in Ascension Parish.
