State trooper Steven Vincent is “fighting for his life after being shot Sunday afternoon, Col. Mike Edmonson said at a news conference at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Sunday night.

“He’s up on the third floor right now and he’s fight for his life,” Edmonson said.

Trooper First Class Steven Vincent, 43, was shot during a traffic incident near Bell City Sunday afternoon. A suspect, Kevin Daigle,

Daigle shot Vincent with a sawed-off shotgun, walked up to the trooper and said “You are going to die soon.” Edmonson said the shooting was caught on Vincent’s dash camera. “I watched the shotgun blast hit my trooper.”

Edmonson asked for prayers from the public.

Vincent, who was shot in the head, suffered neurological damage, Edmonson said.
