Gubernatorial candidates square off in 1st televised forum

A group of Louisiana’s higher ed students will get the chance to question three of the four men vying for the state’s top job Wednesday night.

Panelists from Southeastern Louisiana University and Northshore Technical Community College will host a gubernatorial forum billed as the first one televised for this election.

State Rep. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, and Republicans Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle (both Republicans) are set to attend.

Sen. David Vitter, also a Republican, won’t be there. A spokesman for his campaign told NOLA.com “We get literally dozens of [requests for forums] every week. … You can only be in so many places.”
