Pedestrian killed by 18-wheeler on I-12 in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – Police said a pedestrian was killed after getting hit by an 18-wheeler on I-12 Thursday morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported it happened on I-12 East past Airline Highway around 10:45 a.m. Officers are investigating how the crash occurred and why the man who was killed was outside of the vehicle.

Police say the victim is a 34-year-old man and he died at the scene of the crash.

Emergency officials shut down I-12 East at Airline following the crash. All lanes of I-12 East at Airline were reopened around 11:30 a.m., but the right and center lanes past Airline remain closed.

The name of the victim was not released. It is not yet known if the driver will be charged. The investigation is ongoing.
