Delta State University employee named as suspect in campus shooting

UPDATE: Cleveland Police Chief Charles Bingham said the suspect in the Delta State University deadly shooting is Shannon Lamb.

Lamb is an employee at DSU. According to Sherwin Johnson with Jackson Public Schools, Lamb worked as a math teacher at Murrah High School from August 5, 2005 – May 31, 2006.

Gautier Police tell us that he’s wanted as a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened in Gautier. The victim in that shooting has not been identified. Gautier PD Public Information Officer said the victim lived with Lamb.

Dr. Ethan Schmidt was shot and killed in an office on campus Monday morning.

Anyone who has seen Lamb is asked to contact authorities.

GAUTIER, Miss. (WJTV) — Gautier Police said they believe suspect for a shooting that happened in Gautier is the same person authorities are looking for in connection with the deadly Delta State University shooting.

Gautier Police Public Information Officer Matt Hoggatt said that they are working off the assumption that 45-year-old Shannon Lamb is the shooter in both cases.

They have not released name of the victim who was shot in Gautier. Hoggatt said the victim is a female and that they were living together.

According to Delta Sate University’s website, Lamb is a Geography and Social Science instructor.

Dr. Ethan Schmidt was shot and killed in an office at Jobe Hall on campus.

Classes have been canceled for the rest of the day.
