Stevie Wonder became the latest singing superstar to share a car with the “Late Late Show” host Monday night for his recurring “Carpool Karaoke” sketch.
After a cute opening bit in which it was determined Wonder was unfit to take the wheel — the Grammy winner forgot to bring his license — Corden and his special guest set off for their commute, singing several familiar-sounding songs along the way, such as “Superstition” and “Sir Duke.”
Corden then secured an infinite number of “brownie points” with his wife, Julia, when Wonder graciously serenaded her over the phone with an adorably reworked version of “I Just Called to Say I Love You.”
(“I just called to say James loves you.”)
In between renditions of “Isn’t She Lovely” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” Wonder was having so much fun he decided he wanted to form a group with Corden called “The Wondercats.” “We’re going to write new lyrics to Stevie Wonder songs,” proclaimed the harmonica maestro before the two finished up the ride with “For Once in My Life.”
