Motorcyclist breaks two legs in fiery crash on Evangeline Thruway

UPDATE:  Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton said a man was transported to a local hospital from what appeared to be two broken legs after the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV Tuesday morning. Mouton said the crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. in the 1900 block of the Northeast Evangeline Thruway. Mouton said the bike burst into flames on impact and the motorcyclist was thrown into the median.  Police did not say if any charges would be filed.



A Traffic on a major Lafayette throughfare was severely backed up Tuesday morning after a motorcycle caught fire during a traffic crash.

The accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. on the northbound Evangeline Thruway, near the Northgate Mall.  Traffic was backed up for miles on both the northbound and southbound I-49 connector. The condition of the motorcyclist is unknown at this time.
