Man arrested for fourth DWI after colliding head-on with 18-Wheeler

WELSH, LA (KPLC) – A Lake Charles man who walked away from a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler on I-10 late Wednesday is suspected to have been impaired at the time of the accident, authorities with Louisiana State Police Troop D said in a news release.

William Shockley Hains, 33, was booked into the Jeff Davis Parish jail on counts of fourth-offense DWI and careless operation.

Hains was driving was driving on Interstate 10 two miles west of Welsh when his 2013 Ford pickup made contact with an 18-wheeler, Sgt. James Anderson said. Hains lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and hit another 18-wheeler head-on.

The truck rolled several times and landed upside down.

Hains suffered only minor injuries, Anderson said. No one else was injured.

While Hains was suspected to be impaired, he refused to submit to a toxicology test, Anderson said. After a no-refusal warrant was obtained, a blood sample was drawn and will be analyzed.
