A former Allen Parish sheriff’s deputy who used a department credit card to purchase more than $24,000 in gas has been convicted of felony malfeasance in office, says Attorney General James D. “Buddy” Caldwell.

An Allen Parish jury found Patrick Buxton (46) guilty on Thursday of illegally using the office’s credit cart to fill industrial sized storage drums with gasoline and reselling the fuel for personal gain.

The sheriff’s office became aware of this in 2012 during a financial review when they noticed excessive fuel bills coming from one credit card.

Buxton has been ordered to house arrest pending his sentencing. Felony malfeasance carries a possible sentence of five years in prison.

Buxton had been a sheriff’s deputy for more than a decade before resigning in 2012.
