Friday afternoon the body of an elderly man was found lying on the doorstep of an apartment many neighbors are in shock and the family is searching for answers.

Lafayette police received a call around 12:30 p.m. reporting a dead body on Kelly Drive. According to police the victim was a 65-year-old man found with a gunshot wound.

The victim’s sister, Rosemary Dean says it breaks her heart that someone would do this to her brother. “It’s so sad for all of us. I have family out of state and I had to contact them. I just hope they can catch whoever it is, not just for my brother especially but for the neighborhood.”

Neighbors say it is very uncommon to see a crime like this in the area. Angelica Knight lives two houses down from the victim. She says he never caused any trouble. “This is a quiet area, he didn’t bother anybody. We would pass and see him and his wife and wave, they didn’t bother anybody. To hurt a human being like that, that’s sad. You just have to pray that the violence stops.”

Dean says the family hopes to find some answers and get justice for her brother. “I’m going to take it day by day with Jesus because I walk with Jesus. I pray that God can give them the understanding to come forward, whoever you are.”

This is an ongoing investigation and Lafayette police ask that if anyone has any information in connection to this crime to please contact police.
