Mamou man killed in early morning car crash

Shortly before 6:00 a.m. Sunday Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 about 6 ½ miles east of Oberlin in Allen Parish.  The initial investigation revealed that a Chevy Malibu driven by 25 year old Cody Hammon of Mamou was traveling east on LA 26, and entered a curve. Police say Hammon then lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Police say Hammon was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected through the windshield.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash and a toxicology sample was obtained from Hammon and will be submitted for analysis.  The crash remains under investigation.
